Akawelle Jewellery by Lovetta Conto

The Trend Boutique love these jewellery pieces created by African designer Lovetta Conto. Handcrafted necklaces and bracelets made from discarded bullet shells fired in the Liberian civil war create a collection that is truly beautiful and inspiring. At seventeen years of age Lovetta's collection stands as a powerful symbol of hope and promise against the face of poverty and adversity.
Akawelle Necklace
The handcrafted leaf pendant is formed from melted bullet shells whilst the bead is the actual bottom of the bullet shell. The harsh texture of the pendant contrasts with the beauty and value of the word inscribed on the pieces. Lovetta describes 'Even something as ugly as a bullet that was fired in a war can be made beautiful if you are willing to work to change it into something else'. All profits from sales go towards supporting the Strongheart House, a specialised program designed to support young people displaced or orphaned by war, aiding Lovetta's ambition to help those affected by the civil unrest.

Described by Angelina Jolie as 'remarkable' and 'inspirational', this young girl is supporting a great cause whilst living her dream as a designer. The Trend Boutique think this is praise well-deserved. A truly motivational story.
