Another 'Cool Find' from The Trend Boutique is the aptly named 'Cool Chair' by Charlie Davidson that he recently exhibited at 100% Design.

A fantastic piece made from 2mm punched steel sheet, gas welded and powder coated the design is based on an prototype for a plastic outdoor chair made earlier in the year. This limited edition piece takes over a week to fabricate and finish, but we think it is definitely worth the effort.
About his work he says, 'It takes many hours to get all the holes to line up on the hidden joins, this chair looks so simple in its form but beneath its almost invisible skin lies months of prototyping that makes a perfectly balanced form.'

The 'Cool Chair' is a stand out piece, and hopefully will become one of those iconic design classics of the future. We also, however, like a number of Charlie Davidson's other designs such as his 'Black Light' and his 'Peak Oil' Project.
Charlie Davidson is now a well-established British designer having originally graduated with a BA in Furniture Design from Birmingham Polytechnic 1992, showing at New Designers with his graduate collection. He has since then, been very sought after as a freelance designer working as a creative & visionary designer at LEGO, Sony Playstation, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, and Levi Strauss.
He has also participated & been awarded for his efforts at exhibitions in Frankfurt, London, Milan, New York and Tokyo, and what is great about his work is that it defies boundaries, as he is constantly being influenced by a wide variety of different mediums from new technologies, materials or the development process itself.
Chalie Davidson's design ethos is “Design it simply, make it beautifully and be sure it’s necessary”. An absolutely great set of guidelines for any designer to live by, and something we really commend.
