Growing Chair by Michel Bussien

Tying in perfectly with The Trend Boutique's Spring Summer 2012 'Harvest' theme, the Growing Chair by Michel Bussien manages to merge both sharp, modern design with the fluidity of nature.
At the heart of the furniture is a living tree, that at first conforms to it confines and then manages to find a way to eventually escape its perspex prison. The furniture needs watering & feeding like a normal house plant and part of a general direction the Trend Boutique have seen emerging for products and buildings that remain living things or are grown into shape to eliminate the need to manufacture its components.

Bussien says that 'having evolved from nature, we have gradually differentiated ourselves from it. Modern society has come to build itself on the perception that nature and man are separated.' Within our 'Rurban' direction within the 'Harvest' theme we touched on very similar issues about the need for us to learn to harness nature with minimal impact, whilst at the same time there being a blurring between our urban & rural sensibilities.

These tree-chairs have such a delicate, yet modern aesthetic that although they may not be the most practical of items would continue to change & evolve as they grow and hence they were featured as a perfect example of the Spring Summer 2012 'Harvest' theme.
