In our 'Harvest' Spring Summer 2012 trend report we talk about the delicate harnessing of nature and how it offers a fantastic environmentally alternative to mass production, and these honeycomb vases by Studio Libertiny are a great example.
Creating a simple frame Studio Libertiny allow the bees themselves to create the outer shape of the product, the result is an amazingly intricate design that is truly organic in both its development & its style. Harnessing some 40,000 bees in the process each vase created takes approximately one week to create and Studio Libertiny refer to it as 'slow prototyping'.

Studio Libertiny also took this concept and created a full scale person in real time at Miami Design Basel. Stunningly, visitors were able to see the whole piece created before there eyes as the bees set to work.

The Trend Boutique like the way that this process opens up so many possibilities especially as alternatives to mass production, plus as rapid prototyping & 3D digital printing comes to the fore Studio Libertiny's work offers a surprising version.
