'Les French' by Studio Glithero

The Trend Boutique love the fragile and slightly unstable-looking structures the 'Les French' storage units created by Studio Glithero possess. The dainty scaffolding effect forming the base of the units is actually a casting of a pre-shaped bamboo structure into a stable bronze form.
Studio Glithero are the London based Anglo-Dutch design alliance behind 'Les French'. Founded by Tim Simpson and Sarah van Gameren, who met at the Royal College of Art, the studio creates time based installations, and processes that give birth to unique and wonderful products. With their own concoction of design performance they aim to bridge creative disciplines and reach a universal audience.

Faux Pas by Studio Glithero
'Les French' is a project of two parts. Studio Glithero first create ad-hoc configurations of bamboo, binding the joints with wound string. These frames are then sent to a bronze foundry and through a process of loss material casting, the fragile and unlikely structures transform to create structural & permanent casts in bronze.

For the top part - with no predetermined idea in mind - the designers build the functional volumes of the furniture in response to the bronze pieces. Underlining the friction in permanence and value that takes place in the casting process, they wrap a lightweight fabrication in gum-paper strips. The project is an exercise in process. It will grow to become a family of unique characters that entertain a variety of principles for lifting volumes from the ground.
