An amazing new concept has just come to the attention of The Trend Boutique, the Mojito Shoe by Julian Hakes, of Hakes Associates. A company normally associated with equally spectacular architecture developed around the world, this new fashion based product is a gravity-defying, awe-inspiring feat of design in its own right.

Initially created by the designer, who was not only perplexed at the restraints of the high heel, but who also realised the foot, when it walks barefoot on sand, creates it own natural bridge between 2 surfaces and takes the majority of the pressure on the ball & heel thereby meaning that a much freer form could be designed.
Playing around with paper & masking tape, Julian came up with a design that is based upon 'a single wrapped geometry which starts under the ball of the foot, sweeps over the bridge, then down below the heel before twisting back on itself to provide the support for the heel and ankle'.

To ensure the shoe itself lives up to the performance of this dramatic design, Julian chose each component to compliment one another, but also to undertake a specific task within the shoe. The shoe's core is created using a laminate with Carbon fibre which gives the shoe its spring and strength, whereas leather is used on the foot side and rubber on the walking wearing side.

With the final design looking like a twist of lime, the Mojito Shoe was born, and already Julian has received major attention from retailers, brands & manufacturers and is currently deep in negotiation about bringing his innovative footwear to market. Follow his progress on Twitter or just check out some of his other work via the company's website. We know that we will be watching this designer / architect whose work has been described as 'poetic radicalism', we couldn't agree more.
