Naturally False is completely on trend for the The Trend Boutique's Autumn Winter 2011-12 "Worn" report. The "Humble Metallics" direction predicts:
"Renewed value is placed on pewter, copper & brass, where impurities & tool marks become the medals of great craftsmanship".

Naturally False Structure - WHATELS
Els Woldhek, the designer behind WHATELS, is a recent graduate from the Royal College of Art. Her "Naturally False" project revolves around finding a balance between design, material and process. Els explores a relationship between copperplating and vereer, two materials normally used as surface finishings for their decorative qualities.

Each piece is entirely unique due to the nature of the materials used and the technique of production. The structures are created with thin sticks bound together by the growth of copper, formed through a copper plating process, and creating structure and support in their own unpredictable ways. The outcomes are developed into shelving, lighting, and delicate pieces of jewellery.
