Nike Introduce Environmentally Friendly 2010 National Team Kits
on 18/6/10
For the first time in football history Nike have created technology inspired and environmentally preferred football shirts for the 2010 South Africa World Cup. The national teams who will be wearing the shirts in the games include Australia, Brazil, South Korea, The Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, New Zealand and USA.
The shirts are wholly made from recycled polyester with the 8 bottles used to create them having been gathered from Japanese and Taiwanese landfill sites and then melted down to produce new yarn which has been constructed into fabric for the shirts. This process as a result saves raw materials and reduces energy consumption.

Alongside the environmental aspects of the kit, Nike has also considered the general wear and performance of the shirts. For the World Cup games the kits have been improved using Dri-Fit fabric which is 13% lighter than previous Nike Kits and keeps comfort by drawing sweat to the outside of the fabric where it evaporates, keeping players cool, dry and at ease while performing on the pitch. They have also encorporated innovative ventilation zones along each side of the jersey and below the waistband on the shorts significantly increases air penetration to keep players even cooler.
