The Trend Boutique love these unusual pieces of furniture by Dutch design company Burojet recently presented in Milan at HOTEL DROOG for Droog Design. Based on the idea of taking a well-known, almost iconic design and reproducing it in a flat version, it allows the user to enjoy the visual representation of the design, that can often be seen as the most desirable aspect and Burojet feel is 'a reaction to society getting flatter, literal and figurative'.

To add an additional functional element, this flat design becomes 3D by cleverly being able to fold out a chair or table creating a very minimalist piece of furniture, whilst still being able to retain that desirable, iconic image that is that initial focal point. Burojet see this as an easier way to take in design & form, as 2D is more instant, more recognisable and as we see above more in tune with today's society.

Added to the contextual aspects of this design, on a practical level Plano literally takes up zero floor space so is ideal for small places or where you need the ultimate flexibility, such as waiting rooms, hotel lobbys, trains, or outside spaces.

Burojet the design studio behind Plano was initially founded by Egbert-Jan Lam some 10 years ago, and this is not the only piece of work that The Trend Boutique like from this in-demand company. We also like the quirky 'One Liner Booklet', the chairs inspired by bolster wood aircraft models, and the simplistic paper lighting, running through all the designs though is this feeling of a pared down, almost basic aesthetic, very in tune with the new more austere luxury on trend for Autumn Winter 2011-12.
