The Rough Luxe Hotel in King's Cross, London has been created as part of a wider philosophy that is completely right for our new austere times, one where we find luxury & pleasure via simpler things. This movement combines two key trend drivers, that of a new hidden & understated luxury that has a more pared-down, stark aesthetic style, and also the value we place on enriching our lives through authentic experiences & products that have meaning.
On the 'Rough Luxe' website this mantra is referred to as 'It is a different definition of luxury: time for reflection, the intellectual value of objects - of art, nature, culture, our environment and the people around us, of social and cultural experiences linked to locations as well as the ‘consumable’ items; food, lifestyle objects and events'.

The Rough Luxe company consists of a small hotel & lodge and restaurant & bar chain based in locations, such as South Africa, Switzerland & Spain, as well as, its own shops & luxury goods and more unusually a seminar & excursion programme. Individual businesses can also apply to join their network and once approved they can then promote their own company provided they fit with the overall 'Rough Luxe' philosophy and have something unique to offer.

The hotel in King's Cross is a Grade II listed building that has been renovated by designer Rabih Hage, what makes it unique is not only is this 9 bedroom hotel the home of the owners, but also the way that it balances the more raw elements with the sophisticated, that creates the all-important juxtoposition of the 'Rough' & the 'Luxe'. Emphasis is placed on the things that really matter, so the walls remain distressed & maybe the neighbourhood is not the best area of London, but entering the hotel you are welcomed to a haven where your intellectual & physical well-being is looked after through the ambundance of art, reading material or the afternoon teas that take place each day.
