Sculptural Fashion Pieces by Georgia Hardinge

on 28/1/11

Georgia Hardinge, who graduated just two years ago, has been awarded the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award and as a result was given the chance to show her Spring Summer 2011 collection at both London and Paris Fashion week. Georgia Hardinge’s debut Spring Summer 2011 catwalk collection entitled ‘La Belle et la Bete’, is in reference to the muse for the collection, Jean Cocteau.

Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Georgia takes inspiration from the surrealism and mystique of his narrative style, combining ideas from romanticism and French Baroque through to early punk.  Fusing architectural shapes with soft chiffon and mesh alongside surrealist prints.  Paradoxes from Cocteau’s work are brought into a fashion context through dynamic shapes with a soft romantic feel.

The collection consists of a palette of neutral and grey tones against harsh black and a hint of fresh yellow, bringing colour to the summer season.  Delicate folds, curved boning and strong tailoring provide structure and form against a backdrop of light flowing silks and sheer layers creating something almost ethereal as it sits on the body.  This season sees new digital prints in an eery smokey grey which echo the sculptures of Versailles.

Born in London and raised across Europe, Georgia Hardinge’s international background is interpreted throughout her work drawing on eclectic cultural references.  Georgia’s style of molding design techniques in order to create an art piece with everlasting purpose is the keystone throughout her collections holding firm in the belief that “the highest approach of art awareness is through fashion”.

Georgia has also designed the catwalk outfits to accompany a recent Victoria Secrets' collection.  Using her sculptural styling, she has created some show-stopping design pieces with intense floral references in line with The Trend Boutique's Spring Summer 2012 theme of 'Harvest'.

The designs created included an intricate floral one piece over a leopard print bra & briefs as the focal point of her Safari theme, drama was also added through the addition of the large-scale wings that were reminiscent of 'Carnival' in Brazil.

Her country theme was a softer look with sculptural shoulder pieces & skirt being created through mini-gingham florals, and a bra with flashes of buttercup yellow.
