Social Networking: BakerTweet

on 18/7/10

Social media is opening up a culture of transparency and honesty and with this shift we are seeing a growth in brands embracing online applications. Many brands are now using Twitter and Facebook as a means of communication, but in particular The Trend Boutique loved this bespoke piece of hardware installed at bakeries, allowing businesses to tell Twitter followers when something hot and fresh has come out of the oven.

Bespoke Hardware Solution Designed by Poke
The concept was made a reality by Laura Jordan-Bambach, the Executive Creative Director at LBi and was designed by Poke. ''BakerTweet is a way for busy bakers to tell the world that something hot and fresh has just come out of the oven. It’s as simple as turning the dial and hitting the button. All of the baker’s followers get a Twitter alert to tell them that it’s bun-time. Or bread time. Or whatever.''

Born out of the developers own desire to know when the latest products were cooked and ready, the concept is now up and running at Albions Oven, a bakers around the corner from the Poke studio. Now at the hit of a button and with the help of a simple web interface, followers get a Twitter alert.  The baker can sign into his or her BakerTweet account, customize the items on offer, and keep their list of products up to date for customers.

In an era when most brands are now moving online Bakertweet has been a real opportunity for Albion Café to differentiate them in an ever growing market. Thanks to BakerTweet, the Albion Café rose to #2 in Google under the keyword search “fresh bread London”. With over 1900 following @albionsoven, there is clearly demand for the service.
