Croatian-born designer Damir Doma has been steadily been building a serious press & fashion-insider following since his first collection in 2006, with the emphasis on creating a contemporary menswear label through his designs having an almost fragile quality.

Now based in Paris his Spring Summer 2011 collection completed the recent menswear shows at Paris Fashion Week where the range featured relaxed silhouettes that had a Middle-Eastern inspired feel to them. Combining sharper tailored pieces with looser-flowing sarouel trousers & kaftans alongside keffiyehs & fez headwear his designs offer a mix between 'folklore' and a more urban spirit. The whole range had a pared-down colour palette of 'concrete' grey, sand & black which gave it its contemporary edge, making the collection feel less costume & instantly in-keeping with Damir Doma's desire for a subtle layered look.

The Spring Summer 2011 nomadic-inspired range adds new depths to his signature style, that runs across all of his collections, where he explores 'the fragile ephemeral quality of the human body, the multiple expressions of identities, and the evanescent impressions from ever-evolving surroundings' to create avant-garde silhouettes.

He believes the concept should focus & blend 'the trinity of mind, body, and spirit' with fabrics, colors, and shapes as 'disciples', and as such each collection is based round draped silhouettes, flowing volumes, double layered attires, and soft tailoring. He also feels it is essential to pay close attention to the fabrics selected each season to ensure his collections are 'evolved into a thoughtful and complex sensibility'.

With a strong and recognizable identity, Damir Doma carries this vision throughout all his collections & into his flagship Parisien store, which is very much in line with the austere-luxury aesthetic we are seeing coming through for the next few seasons & beyond. His womenswear often mirrors his main menswear collections, with lots of draping, simple lines and a subdued colour palette, whereas his younger 'Silent' collection has an edgier take with modern fabrics and beautiful, sometimes delicate, yet extremely wearable styling.

The Trend Boutique like the way that Damir Doma seems build upon each element of his life, so although he is based in Paris he still shows his 'Silent' collection in Berlin. Deservedly gaining a high level of recognition & the rewards for his creativity, its great to see a designer that has a fantastic unity of vision for the brand.
