'Transformations' by Camille Cortet

The Trend Boutique previously featured Carmille Cortet in our Spring Summer 2012 Textiles Trend Report as her 'Transformations' collection was perfect for our theme 'Senses' as her work focussed on the sensory & visual transformation of animals & reptiles. The piece we used to illustrate the theme was inspired by snakes & the shedding of skin, which was not only aesthetically stunning, but also showed amazing technical design too.
Also part of the same collection is a range of menswear accessories, called 'Bird & Seduction' that is based on the plumage of exotic birds and forms the focus of this 'Cool Find' article.

Camile explains "Some birds can transform their body with volume and colours during the mating period. As an example, birds of paradise can hide a colourful plumage, and use this beauty display during their seduction show." This act of visual seduction is translated in a series of accessories for men. These garments are collars or body ornaments that the wearer shapes around his body made with different layers of textile and paper.

The project started with an analysis of the animals ability to transform themselves with their outside layers, however Camile thinks that her 'Transformations' project demonstrates how man & animals are closer in kind than you would think and shows the former slowly slipping into the latter’s skin.

Designer Camille Cortet says of the collection: "By observing animal transformations we understand animals’ behaviours that we can connect with and that we would like to have from them. These animal behaviours are inspirations for our own transformations."
What The Trend Boutique really like about Camille's work is that she not only offers designs that are visually beautiful, but that they also have a strong concept & meaning behind them. In addition to the 'Transformations' collection we also felt her 'Slow Water', 'Nap' & 'Addiction' collections were equally strong and can see why this French designer that graduated from the Design Academy, Eidenhoven has attracted such interest & accolades from the press.
